Pedrevan

Mrs Hayes

My favourite book is a collection of funny poems written by Jez Alborough about his experiences at primary school. He names his teachers in the poems, including his headteacher Mr Rimington who happens to be my late granddad! My favourite poem is called "Morning Prayer", which is about a silent prayer Jez would say in his head every day during morning assembly when Mr Rimington would ask pupils times table questions. Jez was so scared of being picked on and getting the answer wrong that he would hide behind other children and say his prayer! In the front of the book Jez has hand-written a note to Mr Rimington, which he then gave to him as a gift. After my granddad passed away, the book was given to me to treasure.

In Pedrevan we cater for both Nursery and Reception children, taking children from their 3rd birthday all the way through to the end of their Reception Year. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and lessons and activities are carefully planned to develop children's knowledge and skills, through a topic-based approach. Through building trusted relationships and providing stimulating and challenging experiences, we nurture, support and encourage our children to become confident, resilient and independent learners.

         Phonics
From the very beginning of the year, children in Reception are introduced to letter sounds, which they will quickly start to use to read and write simple words. We follow a systematic programme called Read, Write Inc Phonics
